Cabo San Lucas is a port city in the Baja state of Mexico, whose history started from the discovery of the island by a navigator, Francisco de Ulloa, in 1537. Initially it was an undeveloped town with a lack of water supply to the port but, after the construction of a fort by King Philip II and World War II, San Lucas became widely known as the playground of the Spanish rich and famous.

The most important festival is the fishing tournament, which takes place from November to January every year. Then there are other festivals which highlight the specialty of the city.

Among all the sports for the elite golf is the favorite and San Lucas now has a 32km long golf course for all the rich and famous people who love to play a comparatively light sport under the warm sun and in a typically mild climate. The pleasant weather, which extends throughout the year, also attracts people from all over the world to relax while sun bathing and swimming alongside the coast.

Cabo San Lucas is a city in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. Famous for its sandy beaches, scuba diving sites and beautiful seaside resorts, this area has become a holiday destination for many families and fishermen. Its blue waters, warm breezes and beautiful beaches attract Mexicans as well as tourists to enjoy the amazing views of the area.

The history of Cabo San Lucas dates back to 1537 when a navigator, Francisco de Ulloa, discovered a natural port, which was later named Cabo San Lucas. This port was a busy trading harbor for merchants and a stop for pirates in the area. The capture of Spanish treasures and their return forced King Philip II of Spain to build a fortress which would restrain the entry of pirates, as well as enemy ships to their port.

The history of Cabo San Lucas developed positively after the fort was built, because then the area was open for discovery and settlements along the Baja began to grow as pearls were discovered in the Sea of Cortez. In 1730, a new town was established in the north, called Jose Del Cabo which, along with Cabo San Lucas, was known as Los Cabos.
Around 1930, the cape of San Lucas was mainly undeveloped because of the lack of water. It had a population of about 400 inhabitants, but was beginning to be well-known as a sports fishing expedition area. After World War II, this port became a playground especially for the rich and famous people of Spain, but the fame of the place spread around quickly enough for it to become famous. The king built an extravagantly marvelous hotel, Las Cruces, on the Eastern Cape, which was followed by further developments around the harbor.

The history of Cabo San Lucas was marked at this time as the most developmental period, when the population reached 900, a highway was constructed which became a route to connect to Central America, the marlin fishing tournaments started and the development of the San Lucas Airport began – which led the way for travel and tourist agencies and international developers to invest money in the area.

Another great spurt of growth started up when a system of pipelines allowed the building of a marina and fresh water to be brought to Cabo San Lucas, after which the area became known for its various sports like fishing, scuba diving and bird watching. Apart from sportsmen, families and groups of friend also visited the area for the beautiful beaches, honeymoon resorts and golf parks.

The history of Cabo San Lucas has reached the point where a number of quality restaurants, shopping areas and an enlightened nightlife can be enjoyed to the fullest. The delightful scenario of the port and its marvelous culture attracts families and tourists to spend their vacations there, to experience a totally new way of living in a developed area with exclusive accommodation which features Mexico’s excellent pluses like never before.

Cabo San Lucas has many activities no matter what your interests are. Here is a basic guide outlining several of the most popular activities in Los Cabos.

As a tourist to this beautiful area of Mexico, you first need to decide what your favorite kinds of experiences are. Ask yourself if you are looking for an adventure in the great outdoors, a relaxing vacation, or something in between.

If you are looking to take a load off your mind, there is no shortage of resorts, beaches and other tropical experiences along the Baja Peninsula. You may opt to soak up the sun and bury your toes in the sand all day and then go out on the town to enjoy Los Cabos’ famous night life. It is said that this area is like a year round Spring Break destination. The clubs and bars provide plenty of party time and there seems to be an unlimited selection of venues to stop in and have a great time, enjoy drink specials and savor food choices.

The restaurants offer cuisine of all types, from authentic Mexican offerings to Italian and even the best of American dishes. Each day and night try something different, to keep the variety going and experience as much as you can in the limited time you are visiting the fantastic area of Los Cabos.

Now, if you are looking more for the adventurous side of things, here are a few ideas of what to do to get your adrenaline pumping. First of all, snorkeling and scuba diving tours, instructions and gear are all at your disposal. The marine life is in full bloom, so to speak, in this tropical area. You can see goat fish, sea lions, parrot fish, whales and so much more.

If you like motor sports, try renting a jet ski or an ATV to coast along the shore on the crystal clear water, or take a water taxi over to Land’s End (also known as Lover’s Beach) to view beautifully colored tropical fish and sea lions sitting atop rocks. You can then go back to the marina by boat by flagging it down like a taxi, as long as you do so by 4 pm.

The Point, which is where the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez meet, is also a destination of choice. Rookery, Pinnacle, and Blowhole are three rock formations near there. In this area, you can snorkel and see many small creatures. Beginners may enjoy the Santa Maria Cove, while advanced divers will be better advised to try out Gordo Banks where sail fish, tuna, marlin, hammerhead sharks and other fascinating sea creatures can be seen.

When it’s time to slow down again, there are a slew of shops and art exhibits in Los Cabos for people of all ages to enjoy. You can get some shopping done, do some sightseeing and be back to the hotel in time for a soak in the hot tub spa or a dip in the ocean at the resort. Your Mexico vacation is a choice of your own kind of adventure, so make the most of it in your own way.

A Mexico vacation is the ultimate lifetime experience to be remembered and cherished. When planning a visit, you should incorporate Los Cabos nature and eco tours.

On the nature side of things, for instance, there is a tour called The Then and Now, which takes you through an ancient village. The tour guide will explain how natural resources are important to the surroundings and culture on the Baja Peninsula. Going for walks and enjoying the sightseeing will be a fulfilling process. A key stop is at Wirikuta, which is a cactus garden which gleans inspiration from a culture known as Huichol.

An eco adventure is also a spectacular experience not to be missed. The activities you may want to try out include ATV beach and desert tours, horseback riding along the Pacific Beach, horseback riding at sunset, traveling on trails in the desert, viewing the beautiful Pacific beaches and taking in the sights of cliffs alongside the ocean.

The Carisuva Ranch is a wonder to behold as well. Here you will see as many as 43 horses, a fresh water well and many animals on the farm, including cows, goats, donkeys, chickens and more. You can also view a traditionally built desert hut.

The tranquil beaches, beautiful breezes, palm trees and soothing ocean waves provide an ambiance you will be thankful you are able to soak up. The tropical environment is one that will relax you and melt away the stresses and worries of life – and the sights will stay with you for a lifetime. Even those who are not able to take the trip with you will be entranced by the pictures you bring back home with you.

Los Cabos is a great place to take a ride on a variety of all terrain vehicles like dune buggies, Tomcars like those in the military, a customized Jeep, or a standard ATV. It is an amazing thrill to take in all of the many sights and unique wonders that are along the Baja Peninsula in one of these vehicles.

In the winter months, it is possible to observe whales as they migrate. This is one of the activities that the area of Los Cabos is world famous for. Few, if any, other places in the world provide the ability to see firsthand the mother whales and their calves surfacing on the water in such abundant numbers as you can in this area of Mexico.

These are just a few examples of the multitude of exciting and memorable activities to be found on your trip to Los Cabos, Mexico. Whether you’re visiting Los Cabos for a honeymoon adventure or a family vacation, you will find a full experience. No matter what age or walk of life, everyone in your family and group of friends will find the entertainment they seek.

One trip to Los Cabos may not be enough, in which case it is recommended to schedule a return to this destination of endless amazement.

Shopping for food in Los Cabos is not the same as in other towns in Mexico. This is because of the magnificent resorts and restaurants available. Nevertheless, there are tiny markets called bodegas where you have access to fresh sea and farm products. However, in whichever way, grocery shopping in Los Cabos is a thing of fun and adventure.

As a traveler, it is good to realize that Los Cabos as a name refers to two towns, namely San Jose and Cabo San Lucas. Cabo San Lucas is rich in marine life and it is very difficult to find any food on sale here on the streets, but it is available at Walmart and at Centro Comercial Californiano.

At San Jose, which is further down the road, you can get Mexican food. There is an excellent bakery making fresh tortillas and fresh fish and meat is also available. Everything is displayed for your eyes to feed on while at the same time maintaining hygiene.

If you fancy a traditional market, you are advised to visit Mercado Publico where you will find every type of food being sold, which range from fresh farm vegetables to fish at pocked friendly prices.

Some local foods are very good, such as canned chilies and red sauce, but there are certain foods that are sold as local, although they have only been repackaged. A case in point is Frosted Flakes, which go by the name Zucaritas here. Everything here is paid in local currency, so if you do not want the hassle of being told that there is no change for your dollars, pay the local way.

Along the highway to Los Cabos, as you enjoy your ride, you are treated to stands showcasing fruit and vegetables. You can taste before buying and you will go home a happy traveler. They sell watermelons which are locally grown, tangerines and a great assortment of other fruits. If you are staying the night and the following day happens to be a Saturday, you can go to the organic market in San Jose and get your fresh food there. The prices are fair in this part of Los Cabos.

If you are interested in buying fresh beef, then the right place to go will be Costco. For your adventure, at the rear of the Mercado Municipal in San Jose’s old central market, you will not fail to find a particular butcher who sells Sonoran beef. For your thirst, non-refrigerated milk is on sale in any of the shops that you come across. If you are interested in buying eggs with bright yokes, they are sold either singly or packed in cartons.

Whenever you see a signpost stating Pescederia, that is where you find fish, for the sign simply means fish market. There are numerous markets in San Jose specializing in this trade. Alternatively, you can go straight to the wharf and get the fish straight from the fishermen.

If you are interested in buying bread and fresh cakes then worry not, for there is a bakery around every corner you turn into. Just look out for the sign Panadera. It is highly recommended though that you visit San Jose’s Mega Market for customer baked orders at reasonable prices.

For bulk buying, try a warehouse known as Prosan in Cabo San Lucas. It is here that the restaurants get their supplies. Though it might prove difficult to locate, the fun of it is either finding it or not. After driving and making your purchases, settle down for a sumptuous eating experience at any of the beautiful sites.

Los Cabos Whale Watching is one of the most wondrous sights to see in the area, while on a Mexican vacation. In fact, it is arguably worth scheduling your trip around this event, if you have a love for animals as many individuals do.

To that end, when planning to see whales in Los Cabos, the ideal time to visit is from January through March. It is at this time of the year that the animals are most visible and it is easy to catch a glimpse of their off shore spouting. The most common place to spot them is in the lagoons which are roughly halfway down the peninsula of Baja.

One of the most awe-inspiring sights to see is the process of breaching, which is when the whales leap from the water almost completely above the surface. They then make a huge splash as they return below the surface. The grey whales also perform a process known as spy hopping, which is where they push themselves above the water to look and see what is nearby. Observing this is quite a thrill. You can also make an educated guess where they will reappear if you pay close attention to the direction they are heading, as they stay underwater for a few minutes before resurfacing.

To maximize the sightings, you may want to schedule a tour with a guide so that you can make the most of this amazing once in a lifetime experience. The Sea of Cortez is a primary location for the migration of whales. The animals travel there to give birth to their young, starting in the fall and proceeding through the winter months. This is why January through February sees such a significant showing of this spectacular event in the Los Cabos area.

Magdalena Bay is the most ideal place to see the female grey whales and their calves. There are many tours available for whale watching there. The tours can actually last anywhere from one day up to a week, with hotel and meals provided by the company organizing the tours. Seeing the baby whale calves along with their mother whales is a phenomenal adventure full of awe and wonder.

Although there are a great many other activities to do while on vacation in Los Cabos, whale watching is one adventure not to be missed. Whale migration has been taking place throughout the history of this region and it is a memorable experience to become a part of the ancient tradition.

Additionally, the Baja Peninsula is also the home of gorgeous beaches for swimming and water sports, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. Be sure to check the particular area to see what is permitted in each location, as some spots where whale watching takes place do not allow fishing or boats in the area.

Gather your family together and plan an entire getaway vacation to Los Cabos that will be entirely unforgettable, including luxurious accommodation, unique restaurants and shopping and whale watching to make the whole extravaganza complete.

Who says you have to be royalty to live like one. Cabo San Lucas offers nothing short of the lifestyle of the rich and famous. There is an array of vacation rentals that just cannot wait to house you first class, away from the havoc of crowded hotels.

It is absolutely perfect for whatever it is you have in mind for a holiday treat – family vacation, couple getaway or a private retreat.

Cabo San Lucas is a spectacular vacation destination found at the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. The place is graced with a coastline to die for, along with a tropical warm climate crowned by warm ocean waves. The accommodation and activities continue to draw tourists from the US, Canada and several other Latin countries.

The crowds drawn in consist of a great portion of Hollywood celebrities and Fortune 500 CEOs – and even the US president during the 2002 Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC). Do these know what it means to live large?

Activities
Being able to indulge in a variety of activities while renting one of the villas or condos is a key motivator for many a traveler. Expect an opportunity to scuba dive, sail and watch pods of whales in the crystal waters. Whale watching is a favorite pastime, while the largest marlin tournament in the world is held annually at Cabo San Lucas. Some clubs in Cabo include the Mandala, El Squid Roe and Giggling Marlin.

For day time lovers, a walk to the acclaimed Cabo Pulma National Park or lazing around at the beach simply lets the change from dawn to dusk slip by. You can spoil your taste buds while at it with a variety of culinary delights from top chefs.

The vacation rentals are an excellent choice for family trips because they offer the feel of home which is perfect for children. The luxurious family friendly beach homes have separate rooms that offer maximum relaxation.

Budget Friendly Options
Pampering yourself does not necessarily have to translate to bankruptcy. With money flying in different directions for food, transport and boarding, a balance needs to be struck without overstretching your budget. The vacation rentals offer the ultimate solution for this. This is because rental homes are discounted the longer you stay and you need not chip in extra cash for paying for separate rooms in a hotel, as opposed to one home.

Amenities and Features
The rentals are stocked with many amenities and features to pamper you silly. Generally, the majority of the rentals will have 24 hour on call maintenance, air conditioning, a beach and beach chairs, balcony, crisp towels, kitchen items like blenders and a stove, Jacuzzis, a security system, telephone and many more.

In determining where to stay, there are a variety of things to consider. Of course, the rates (mostly listed in dollars), smoking policy, wheelchair and older people access, pet rules and availability of the rental are to be considered. The good news is that the presence of several rentals (over 579) means that there is no way you are going to be left unsatisfied.

Privately owned luxury villas are also available for nightly vacation rentals. Ranging from 2 to 6 bedrooms, they come fully equipped for your convenience. Privately owned resort condos are also available for nightly vacation rentals with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms and also come fully equipped.
